Instagram Provides Insights and Breaks Down its Search Feature.

Last week, Instagram published a practical guide to break down what people see when they search and why.

Besides using the text of the user’s search (the most important signal) Instagram uses other ‘signals’ to rank the search results including the user’s activity (accounts followed, posts viewed, past interactions, hashtags followed) and information about the search results, for example, popularity ‘signals’ (number of clicks, likes, shares and follows for a particular account, hashtag or place).

The guide provides easy steps to follow and best practices for accounts that want to maximise showing up in search results, such as ‘using a fitting handle and profile name’, ‘include relevant keywords and locations in your bio’ and ‘using relevant keywords and hashtags in captions’.
